Guilt is a poison that sickens us with heavy feelings of shame for things in our pasts. Our relationships with others and with God are affected by this poison, but there is a cure. God, through His love and mercy, sent His Son to remove our guilty charge and deem us innocent. We cannot earn this status, and nothing we do will increase or decrease our right standing in God’s eyes.

Guilt does not drive us to live more spiritual lives, and it does not cause spiritual growth. The love and goodness of God is what leads us to turn from our sins; but our accuser, Satan, has convinced us otherwise.
